Developed during a digital residency with Pro Helvetia, Windcatcher investigates the formation of new ecologies where nature and technology are inextricably intertwined. The project explores hybrid architectures that house both biological memories and digital simulations, questioning how our perception of "environment" shifts when it is mediated through virtuality.
METHODOLOGY: MOTION CAPTURE & AVATARS
The project features a central performance by the "Son of the Wind"—an avatar of Yuriy Kazachkin (twice European champion in Pole Art). Using Motion Capture (MoCap)technology, Kazachkin’s gravity-defying physical performance was translated into the Metaverse and Augmented Reality (AR). This process examines the kinship between the physical and the virtual body, exploring how human athletic prowess can be archived and reimagined as a digital force of nature.
KEY THEME: THE WIND HOUSE
Guests are invited to navigate the Wind House, a speculative Metaverse space where the boundary between architecture and atmosphere dissolves. By interacting with the AR avatar, participants engage in a dialogue about bodily knowledge and the potential for a "post-human" connection with natural elements.
